Qwen Achieves 3 Billion Downloads, Ranking First Among Open Source AI Models

By: www.tokenpost.kr|2026/08/15 10:19:00

Alibaba's open-source AI model Qwen has recently surpassed 3 billion cumulative downloads worldwide over the past six months. Qwen has risen to become the most downloaded open-source AI model, surpassing models from Meta and Alphabet. Alibaba has released over 460 models in the Qwen series, with more than 300,000 models derived from the ecosystem. Qwen has established itself as the fundamental workflow used by developers to retrain or deploy existing models for specific tasks. Open-source AI models can be modified and deployed, allowing them to be tailored to corporate intranets. According to a report from Hugging Face, Chinese models accounted for 41% of downloads over the past year, with over 113,000 derived models from the Qwen series. Alibaba plans to release Qwen 3 in 2025, distributing various sizes of models as open source. The 3 billion downloads of Qwen are interpreted as an indicator of the presence of Chinese open-source models. The number of downloads is not directly linked to revenue or market share, and the same model may be counted multiple times across different environments.
