US July Core CPI Expected at 2.5% Year-on-Year
The consumer price index (CPI) in the United States for July is projected to rise by 0.2% month-on-month and 2.5% year-on-year based on core inflation. As the rise in energy prices stabilizes, core inflation is expected to continue its trend of stability. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is set to release the July CPI on the 12th. According to Bloomberg, the July CPI is expected to increase by 0.1% from the previous month, which represents a slight rebound following a 0.4% decline in June. The stabilization of energy prices is identified as a key factor in the moderation of inflation, as the pressure from energy prices, which had surged due to the recent conflict between the U.S. and Iran, is easing. Retail gasoline prices in the U.S. fell to their lowest level in about four months at the beginning of July, and the stabilization of jet fuel prices could lead to a decrease in airfare. Attention is focused on whether the moderation of inflation will influence the Federal Reserve's policy decisions, especially as the recently released U.S. employment figures for July were weaker than expected. If inflation continues to slow down, it could alleviate the Fed's inflationary pressures. Bloomberg Economics has suggested that the year-on-year increase in core CPI could drop to its lowest level since March 2021.
