web3: XRPL Allegedly Processes 2 Million AI Agent Payments
CoinWorld reports:
XRP's native bridging role in the XRP Ledger (XRPL) continues, with the latest on-chain data and community disclosures bringing this functionality back into market focus. Over the past 72 hours, the XRPL decentralized exchange has automatically routed transactions through XRP when a better path is available; meanwhile, on-chain AI agents are said to have completed approximately 2 million payments.
Automatic Routing via XRP in 72 Hours
According to XRPL dUNL validator Vet, XRP is the native bridging asset of XRPL. When the direct trading path between two assets is not ideal, the system automatically selects the "Asset A → XRP → Asset B" method to complete the matching, in order to achieve better liquidity or pricing.
This mechanism does not rely on additional smart contracts or third-party bridging services, but is directly built into the XRPL protocol. Data cited in the article shows that transactions completed through this automatic bridging mechanism accounted for 0.16% of XRPL DEX trading volume in the past 72 hours.
AI Agent Payments Create New Use Cases
Another piece of data mentioned comes from RippleXity. It states that approximately 2 million payments have been settled between AI agents on XRPL. The article suggests that such activities are more suited for machine-to-machine micro-settlements, such as API calls, data purchases, computing power usage, and digital service payments.
The report also provides a comparison: if estimated at a minimum fee of $0.30 per bank card transaction, the fees for 2 million transactions would amount to about $600,000; if calculated at XRPL's network fee of 0.00001 XRP per transaction, the total consumption for 2 million transactions would only be 20 XRP, assuming the fee rate remains unchanged.
Payments and Liquidity Concentrated in the Same Ledger
For automated software that frequently initiates micropayments, this cost structure is more operationally feasible. It also means that AI agents can still complete high-frequency micro-payments without relying on bank cards, bank accounts, or traditional clearing periods.
The article also mentions that XRPL's native DEX provides on-chain liquidity support for this model. Once AI agents receive a certain asset, they can theoretically complete exchanges directly within the ledger without needing to transfer assets to external platforms. As AI agent payments and on-ledger trading activities increase, XRP's bridging and settlement role in XRPL is further amplified.
