web3: Solana, BNB, and Sui Push Upgrades as Altcoin Divergence Intensifies
CoinWorld reports:
The altcoin market remains under pressure, but some projects are still advancing network upgrades and expanding payment scenarios, attempting to support ecosystem activity through product progress. Coinpedia has noted that Solana, PUMP, BNB, and Sui have recently garnered more attention, although the variables faced by these projects differ.
Solana Advances Agave 4.2
Solana plans to activate the features of Agave 4.2 during the week of August 17. The goal for the first testnet phase is to reduce the slot time from approximately 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds, with a long-term target of further compressing it to 200 milliseconds.
Reports also indicate that Solana's storage costs are expected to decrease by about 90% in phases. This means developers can deploy larger applications on-chain, potentially enhancing network throughput and application capacity.
In addition to technical upgrades, Solana's payment usage is also growing. Data cited in the report states that Solana's crypto card spending reached approximately $69.5 million in July, setting a new monthly record. Santiment data further shows that its daily ETF net inflow is around $8.8 million, the strongest level since May 12.
PUMP Faces Token Unlocking
PUMP has risen over 30% in the past week, with a cumulative increase of nearly 90% over the last month. Pump.fun continues to generate revenue, with 50% used for repurchasing and burning PUMP tokens, providing some support for the token.
However, on August 12, approximately 6.87 billion tokens will be unlocked. The increased circulation may bring selling pressure, partially offsetting the support from platform revenue and the burning mechanism.
BNB Chain and Sui Expand Scenarios
BNB Chain has reduced block time from about 750 milliseconds to 450 milliseconds in the first half of 2026, achieving a benchmark throughput of approximately 5,200 transactions per second. Its next-generation Layer 1 roadmap aims to exceed 100,000 TPS and plans to develop native privacy features and quantum-resistant security capabilities.
Sui is promoting gas-free stablecoin transfers. Users do not need to hold SUI to pay transaction fees when sending supported stablecoins. Reports citing CertiK data indicate that since June 10, Sui stablecoin transfer activity has reached approximately $65 billion, although bots and duplicate transfers may also inflate this figure.
Overall, these projects continue to advance technology and products during a weak market phase, but token performance still depends on whether network usage continues to grow, as well as improvements in unlocking, liquidity, and risk appetite.
