Ethereum Launches Testnet Platåberget for Glamsterdam
Ethereum has launched the Platåberget testnet to verify the Glamsterdam upgrade. The network will operate for several months to help developers identify issues before deployment on the main testnets Sepolia and Hoodi. The upgrade will change gas calculation rules, requiring software updates for some wallets and tools. The transition to Glamsterdam is scheduled for August 20, by which time node operators and developers will be able to prepare for the changes. Glamsterdam will revise transaction costs, which may impact applications with a maximum gas limit. In particular, transfers to new addresses will be more expensive due to additional costs for creating a record. The maximum size of smart contracts will increase from 24 to 64 KiB, and the initial code from 48 to 128 KiB. The block creation process will also change, dividing the roles of participants. Platåberget has an open set of validators, allowing everyone to test their infrastructure.
