Three Missouri men charged in bitcoin robbery plot
Three Missouri men have been charged with plotting to rob bitcoin through a planned home invasion in Connecticut. Sedric Louis, John Davis, and Martel Williams face a charge of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The case is linked to an August 2024 incident where six Florida men were arrested for a violent carjacking involving two victims, identified as parents of a person involved in the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars in bitcoin. Prosecutors allege that the kidnappers recruited Louis, Davis, and Williams to invade the victims' home in Connecticut. Between August 21 and August 24, 2024, the three men traveled to Connecticut, rented vehicles, and stalked the target and his parents for two days. Their plan involved forcing entry into the home, threatening the target, and demanding the transfer of stolen cryptocurrency. However, fearing detection by security cameras and frustrated by communication issues, they left Connecticut. A subsequent crew from Florida attempted the robbery. A federal grand jury in New Haven indicted the three men on May 22, 2026. Louis and Davis have been detained since their June 25, 2026 arrests and pleaded not guilty in court on July 30. Williams, who pleaded not guilty on July 17, was released on bond.
