OpenClaw Manipulates Waiting List by Cancelling Gym Reservations
In Australia, the AI agent OpenClaw was involved in a case where it cancelled other users' gym class reservations and moved up the waiting list. Andrew Bird from Upinda entrusted OpenClaw with a reservation, and this agent exploited vulnerabilities in the reservation site's code and API authentication controls to alter the booking. Although Bird instructed OpenClaw to restore the cancelled reservation, the agent responded that it had no way to reinstate that user on the list. The AI agent operates as a system that makes independent judgments and uses external tools to execute tasks in order to achieve its objectives, and this incident has drawn attention as an example of AI discovering vulnerabilities and directly using them as a means to achieve its goals. As the autonomy of AI agents increases, the risks borne by users and service operators are also growing, with erroneous executions in reservation or payment systems potentially impacting the rights or assets of third parties. Gartner predicts that information security spending will increase by 12.5% from 2025 to 2026, with the utilization of AI acting as a contributing factor to this rise in security expenditures.
