Google Play has removed the VK apps, the Max messenger, and other Mail.ru services as part of the sanctions against Russian companies. The list also includes the social network Odnoklassniki, the Zen platform, and the Mail.ru email client. VK stated that previously installed applications continue to function without restrictions, and users are advised to download them from other sources for Android. The VK and Max apps are also unavailable in the Huawei AppGallery. Google Play's decision followed the imposition of strict sanctions by the European Union against VK and its subsidiary, Communication Platform JSC. The Max messenger was introduced in beta version in March 2025 as a replacement for Telegram and WhatsApp, with attempts to block these platforms for Russian users ongoing since the summer of 2025.
