Apple to Introduce Ad-Free Block Blast for Apple Arcade
CoinWorld reports:
Apple is incorporating a highly popular free mobile game into its subscription service. According to information released by Apple, the ad-free version of Block Blast!+ will be available on Apple Arcade starting September 3rd. This marks the first time this puzzle game, which has long relied on ad monetization, will enter Apple's gaming content library in a subscription model.
Top Downloads in 2025
Block Blast! is one of the fastest-growing casual games on mobile platforms in recent years. Internal data from Apple indicates that this product is projected to be the highest downloaded free game on iPhone in 2025. Developer Hungry Studio claims that the game will maintain its leading position into 2026, with similar assessments from third-party data firm Sensor Tower.
According to Appfigures, Block Blast! has accumulated approximately 725 million installs. Other agencies estimate this number has reached 868 million. Although the figures vary, they all indicate that the game is still in a phase of large-scale user acquisition.
New Subscription Option Beyond Ad Version
The most direct change in the version launching on Apple Arcade is the removal of ads. The original game typically inserted ads after player failures, disrupting the rhythm of restarting, which has been one of the most complained-about user experience issues.
For Apple, introducing an ad-free version of a popular mobile game helps enhance the appeal of Apple Arcade to a broader audience. For developers, it also provides an alternative distribution and revenue channel beyond ads and in-app purchases, especially as the user base continues to expand; the subscription version can cater to players who prioritize experience.
User Base Continues to Grow
A few months ago, the developer disclosed that the game has approximately 70 million daily active users and around 300 million monthly active users globally. The article mentions that the game still adds tens of millions of users each month, indicating that its growth has not significantly slowed.
Apple stated that Block Blast!+ will join several other new titles on September 3rd in Apple Arcade, including Art of Fauna: Cozy Puzzles+, NFL Retro Bowl '27, Coloring Games for Families+, and Let's Play! Oink Games+.
Apple Arcade currently has a subscription price of $6.99 per month, and it can also be subscribed to through the Apple One bundle. For Apple, transforming high-download free games into ad-free versions for inclusion in the subscription service remains a direct approach to expanding content offerings and enhancing subscription value.
