GIS Expands Gumi Production Line Due to Increased Orders for AI-oriented MLCCs
GIS (306620) is expanding its production line at the Gumi factory due to an increase in orders for AI-oriented multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). According to an announcement on the 12th, the main production lines, including the Anyang factory, have reached saturation, prompting the addition of an MLCC production line at the Gumi factory. As of May, the order volume for key AI-oriented MLCC equipment has more than tripled compared to the same period last year, and the company's cumulative order backlog has increased by approximately 180%. The additional investment at the Gumi factory will utilize existing production bases to reduce the burden of new facility investments. MLCCs are electronic components that store and release electricity to stabilize circuit currents, used in smartphones, PCs, automotive electronic parts, and server equipment. With the rising demand for high-performance components in AI servers and data centers, the demand for MLCCs is also expanding. GIS explained that the Gumi factory's proximity to the production bases of upstream customers can reduce transportation burdens. Additionally, the company plans to establish a local branch in the Philippines to broaden its response range for overseas customers. This expansion is a continuation of this year's efforts to alleviate production bottlenecks and respond to the increased orders for MLCC cutting machines due to the activation of the AI industry.
