Data Breaches in France in 2026, 678,438 Tax Accounts Compromised
French public administrations are experiencing major cyber intrusions in 2026, compromising millions of sensitive data. In August, the Ministry of Economy confirmed a leak affecting 678,438 tax accounts at the DGFiP, as well as a land registry database of 2.04 million people. Other notable leaks include 1.9 million files at CROUS, 1.6 million at France Travail, and 491,800 profiles at the Ministry of Health. The vulnerability extends to all ministries, with 444,000 files at the Ministry of Sports, 558,952 people on the JeVeuxAider platform, and 330,000 files at the National Frequency Agency. The Ministry of Education and INSERM have 243,000 and 189,997 compromised accounts, respectively. The E-campus platform of the National Police has seen 176,000 identities exposed, along with 111,528 agents from the Ministry of the Interior. Even high-ranking officials and government members are affected, with 60,000 records revealed. These leaks increase the risk of social engineering and targeted extortion, facilitating physical assaults. According to CertiK, France recorded 33 of the 52 global violent attacks in the first half of the year, with damages exceeding $30,000,000. The accumulation of these vulnerabilities undermines the protection of personal data and necessitates an urgent review of internal access controls.
