OpenAI Updates ChatGPT, Free Users Can Chat Unlimited Texts and Launches GPT-5.6 Sol

OpenAI has announced an update to ChatGPT with GPT-5.6 Sol, aimed at Plus and Pro users, enhancing answer focus and factual reliability while reducing unnecessary formatting and details. This model supports instant responses and deep reasoning, allowing users to adjust the level of thought in responses with a new slider. Internal evaluations show that GPT-5.6 Luna reduces errors by about 62% on financial, medical, and legal questions, while GPT-5.6 Sol reduces errors by approximately 68%. GPT-5.6 Luna will become the default model for Free and Go users this week. Starting next week, free users will be able to engage in unlimited text chats and tackle deeper reasoning questions using the new Think button, but will still be subject to anti-abuse mechanisms, with file uploads, images, and other tools continuing to have usage limits. This update is only applicable to the everyday conversational experience of ChatGPT, and GPT-5.6 Sol used in Work and Codex will not be adjusted with this release.
