Musk Supports the View that Memory is the Bottleneck in the Era of AI Agents
Musk publicly agrees with futurist Peter H. Diamandis, stating that memory, rather than computation, is the rate-limiting factor in the era of AI agents, and he noted that "few people realize this." This perspective suggests that after large-scale deployment of AI agents, long-term memory, contextual memory, and persistent memory capabilities will replace computing power as the true bottleneck. Even with powerful computing resources, if AI agents cannot effectively remember and retrieve information, their practicality remains limited. This assessment resonates with the current fundamentals of the storage market, where demand for HBM continues to outstrip supply, and the explosion of KV caching and contextual storage is driving structural growth in NAND and hard drive demand, making memory one of the most critical and scarce components in the AI industry chain.
