Australian Regulator Shuts Down 96 Cryptolink ATMs
The Australian financial regulator AUSTRAC has ordered the temporary shutdown of 96 ATMs operated by Cryptolink for three months due to issues with transaction reporting and the management of operations deemed high-risk. The suspension of Cryptolink's registration as a provider of services related to virtual assets has been in effect since August 9. Most of the ATMs are located in major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. AUSTRAC indicated that the operator failed to meet transaction reporting obligations and did not respond to requests for information. In October 2025, the company was fined AUD 56,340 for delays in reporting. Over the past six years, the number of ATMs in Australia has increased from 23 to around 2,000, making the country one of the largest ATM markets in the world. In June 2025, a limit of AUD 5,000 was introduced for cash deposits and withdrawals, and customer verification requirements were tightened. Tasmania police reported losses of AUD 2.5 million related to scams involving Bitcoin ATMs.
