U.S. sanctions Iran, targets third-party trade in digital assets
On Aug. 24, the Trump administration announced a new sanctions package against Iran, imposing penalties on third parties engaging in trade with Iran involving digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the initiative, named "Operation Economic Outcast," aims to block all options available to the Iranian regime. A key aspect of the sanctions is the introduction of secondary sanctions on third parties involved in these sectors. Additionally, the U.S. designated over 60 entities, individuals, and vessels globally for their roles in assisting the Iranian regime in acquiring nuclear and missile technology, conducting cyber operations, and generating oil revenue.
