Ukraine's Trade Deficit Reached $34 Billion in 2026
In January-July 2026, Ukraine imported goods worth $58.1 billion and exported goods worth $24.1 billion. Imports exceeded exports by 2.4 times, resulting in a negative trade balance of $34 billion. The total turnover for the seven months reached $82.2 billion. The taxable import volume amounted to $40.9 billion, which is 18.1% of the total volume of imported goods. The tax burden per kilogram of taxable imports was $0.59. The largest share of goods imported by Ukraine came from China — $16.8 billion, Poland — $5.5 billion, and Germany — $3.8 billion. The main markets for Ukrainian products were Poland — $2.8 billion, Turkey — $2 billion, and Germany — $1.5 billion. The three largest categories accounted for 73% of the total value of imported goods: machinery, equipment, and transport — $25.7 billion; fuel and energy products — $8.5 billion; and chemical industry products — $8 billion. The largest categories of Ukrainian exports were: food products — $14.1 billion; metals and products made from them — $2.5 billion; and machinery, equipment, and transport — $2.1 billion.
