"It was right to fire Luke Dashjr, even if it was 10 years late": Turtlecute
- According to Turtlecute, Dashjr used administrative privileges to push his own ideas in Bitcoin.
- "This is not about an misunderstood genius," Turtlecute states about Dashjr.
Following the recent dismissal of Luke Dashjr as editor of Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIP), various voices from the ecosystem have begun to analyze the impact of his departure.
Among them is the educator and researcher known as Turtlecute, who asserted that the removal of the developer came a decade late, after years of imposing his decisions over the general consensus.
Dashjr's dismissal was finalized after Mark Erhardt, alias <
As reported by CriptoNoticias, the proposal failed after splitting the network at block 961,632 and managing to mine only two blocks, demonstrating a lack of adoption by the majority of computing power.
In response to this outcome, Turtlecute, a product marketing specialist at Braiins and participant in the podcast Il Priorato del Bitcoin, published a harsh analysis on social media platform X on August 11.
According to the researcher, Dashjr <<never had the power to decide what Bitcoin does; he only had keys>>. Turtlecute argues that every time the developer was granted administrative access, <<he used it to push something he couldn't win with arguments>>.
The analyst listed a series of historical incidents to support his position. He mentioned that, while maintaining the Bitcoin package for Gentoo, Dashjr enabled by default a blacklist of addresses, causing users to find out <
He also pointed out that he temporarily blocked the deployment of Taproot by preferring a different method, and that he infiltrated code from his personal project, Bitcoin Knots, into the Bitcoin Core translation platform, causing volunteers to find themselves <
Regarding the recent failure of BIP-110, Turtlecute was categorical about the dangers to which it exposed holders of the digital asset. He recounted that Dashjr claimed the proposal had consensus and carried <
Over the last decade, according to Turtlecute, part of the ecosystem justified these actions under the premise that Dashjr's perspective was valuable or that he was simply <
While the researcher acknowledges that the BIP editors revoked the developer's access using an emergency procedure <<that didn't exist until they needed it>> --- a point he believes the project must address in the future --- he concludes that the decision to remove him was undeniably correct.
This is not about an misunderstood genius, Turtlecute concludes, but about <>. His future perspective on code management is clear and direct: <<He never had the arguments. He only had access. Now he doesn't have that either. Goodbye.>>
