Increase in Bullish Demand with 8,000 Gold Call Options Purchased
In the gold options market, there is an increasing trend of trades that enhance bullish exposure. Analysts suggest that gold prices continue to rise while short-term volatility costs remain at low levels. Chris Murphy, head of Susquehanna, noted that the one-month implied volatility has recently stayed at a low point, and gold prices are maintaining an upward trend. He explained that an environment is being created where investors can increase their exposure to a bullish market without high volatility costs. A total of 8,000 contracts of SPDR Gold Trust ETF call options with a strike price of $460 expiring in November were purchased at approximately $5.55. The SPDR Gold Trust ETF recorded a closing price of $405.49 on Monday. Murphy mentioned that the gold skew has shifted from bearish put options to bullish call options, indicating a reversal from the earlier summer environment where put option protection costs were high. Demand for put options still exists, with a recent purchase of 25,000 contracts of put options with a strike price of $350 expiring in September at $0.62. Susquehanna assesses that the cash flow in the gold market is positive, noting that gold funds are experiencing the strongest inflow of funds this year. Gold is traded as an asset reflecting global liquidity, interest rate expectations, and demand for safe-haven assets. As of 1:33 PM, the spot price of gold was recorded at $4,392.16, down $23.81 from the previous day.

Banco Santander's Form 13F-HR, filed July 29, 2026, reports 129,615 shares of BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust worth $4.31M as of June 30 — its first-ever disclosed spot-bitcoin-ETF position, alongside a first ether-ETF holding. What the filing shows is a quarter-end snapshot of ETF shares; what it does not show is motive, or bitcoin on the bank's balance sheet.
