Century-Old Asset Logic Favors SpaceX
On August 8, American financial commentator Jim Cramer recently stated that investors should view SpaceX stock from a long-term perspective, considering it as a "generational asset" similar to the railroad bonds of the past century. However, he also cautioned short-term investors to wait for a more suitable buying opportunity.
In his show "Mad Money," Cramer mentioned that investors in the past purchased railroad bonds with terms lasting up to 100 years, and SpaceX could become a similar long-term value asset. He believes that future commercial activities on the Moon, orbital data centers, and space infrastructure may become the next direction for economic growth.
During an investment club meeting, Cramer further stated, "If it were my child, I would hold this stock," and referred to SpaceX founder Elon Musk as a visionary entrepreneur.
However, Cramer did not advise investors to immediately buy large amounts of SpaceX stock. He previously warned that an increase in stock supply in the short term could depress prices. With the unlocking of restricted shares on August 6, approximately 911.5 million shares of SpaceX stock became tradable, increasing the company's float from about 639 million shares to 1.55 billion shares, adding over $100 billion in tradable stock to the market.
SpaceX's stock price has fallen for five consecutive weeks and dropped 13.61% in a single day after the release of its first quarterly report post-IPO. The company's capital expenditures exceeded Wall Street's expectations by over $5 billion, raising concerns among investors.
Cramer's long-term bullish core logic includes:
- Starlink satellite internet business: Currently the main source of profit for SpaceX, covering over 160 markets with approximately 12 million users;
- AI computing infrastructure: SpaceX plans to leverage data centers and computing resources to participate in the AI computing market;
- Starship and commercial launch services: Utilizing reusable technology to reduce the cost of entering space;
- Orbital data centers: Building computing infrastructure using solar resources and environmental advantages from space, though still in the early stages;
- Lunar commercial ecosystem: As one of NASA's Artemis lunar program partners, SpaceX may participate in future lunar infrastructure construction.
Cramer believes that SpaceX's long-term value lies in its potential to build the infrastructure for the space economy for decades to come, but short-term stock price fluctuations and valuation pressures still require investors' attention.
