Start of Membership Fee Payments with JPYC in July

On the 19th, the Blockchain Promotion Association (BCCC) announced that starting from July 2026, it will add JPYC, a Japanese yen-denominated electronic payment stablecoin, as a method for paying annual membership fees. The wallets that will support this are unWallet and HashPort Wallet, initially to be used for membership companies' annual fee payments.

The association describes this initiative as "the first attempt by an industry organization" (according to BCCC). Yoichiro Hirano, the representative director of BCCC and president of Asteria, stated, "This is the first step for the association to take a practical approach as a user," indicating a plan to accumulate and share tax and accounting knowledge with its members. The association is also considering expanding the usage scope to include operational expense payments and accommodating other stablecoins.

Noritaka Okabe, the representative director of JPYC Co., Ltd. and vice representative director of the association, also welcomed the announcement. He evaluated it as "an ideal solution for the operation of industry organizations, as it enables highly transparent accounting processes," expressing hope for its expanded use in other fields.

Expansion of JPYC Issuance and BCCC's Initiatives

In Japan, the legal positioning of stablecoins was established with the revised Payment Services Act that came into effect in June 2023. JPYC began issuance in October 2025, and as of May 30, 2026, the issuance amount has surpassed 3 billion yen (according to JPYC Co., Ltd.).

BCCC has a track record of conducting a demonstration experiment with the yen-pegged stablecoin "Zen" in July 2017. The total issuance amount was approximately 850 million yen, with about 10 participating companies (according to BCCC). In February 2020, it established a subcommittee to continue technological enlightenment.
