Zoox Approved for Commercial Operations, Uber Invests $10 Billion in Autonomous Vehicles
Zoox has received an exemption from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), allowing it to begin charging for robotaxi services without a steering wheel or pedals, with plans to operate up to 2,500 vehicles over the next two years. Previous exemptions were limited to technical demonstrations. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that the company will invest $10 billion over the next few years to deploy 120,000 autonomous vehicles and collaborate with more self-driving companies. Joby Aviation reported a year-over-year revenue increase, with net losses narrowing to $245 million, and is partnering with Atoms, founded by Travis Kalanick, to build a network of transportation hubs for air taxis and autonomous ground vehicles. Nvidia has released the Alpamayo 2 Super autonomous driving model for commercial use, now available on Hugging Face, allowing for commercial redistribution and derivative development. SpaceX disclosed its first earnings report since going public, stating that revenue has doubled compared to last year, primarily driven by Starlink growth and deals to lease computing power to Anthropic and Google. The Terafab chip factory, jointly developed by Tesla and SpaceX, will be established in Grimes County, Texas, with an initial investment of $16.8 billion.
