Tether Invests in Bitcoin and Gold to Face Financial Crises
Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, allocates part of its profits to the acquisition of bitcoin (BTC), gold, and land to protect itself against potential macroeconomic instabilities. Its CEO, Paolo Ardoino, stated that the company aims to secure its balance sheet by accumulating scarce assets that allow it to withstand severe financial crises. Ardoino emphasized the importance of having a position in bitcoin, describing it as the mother of all digital assets and a hedge against inflation. Tether's strategy responds to uncertainty in global markets, and the corporate policy combines digital currencies with physical assets. As of June 30, 2026, Tether reported reserves of $5.8 billion in bitcoin and $18.84 billion in precious metals, equivalent to over 146 tons of physical gold. Although Ardoino is a fan of bitcoin, he noted that it is not possible to concentrate all capital in this digital currency, as gold has a deeper cultural root in many economies.
