Tesla and SpaceX Push for $5 Billion Terafab Semiconductor Plant
Tesla and SpaceX are moving forward with the construction of a $5 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility called 'Terafab' in Grimes County, Texas. According to the contract, SpaceX plans to invest at least $5 billion by 2030 and hire 1,800 full-time employees by 2035. The county will provide a 100% property tax exemption for 10 years, and SpaceX has the option to withdraw from the project with written notice 30 days in advance. Terafab is intended to be utilized as an AI chip manufacturing facility, and related job postings are available on Tesla's recruitment page. The Wall Street Journal reported that the initial investment could reach $16.8 billion, with a manufacturing space of 1 million square feet and an employment scale of 3,000, although these figures are not the minimum stated in the county contract. The Houston Chronicle indicated that the initial investment could rise to $55 billion. Residents have raised concerns about water and electricity usage and environmental issues, but local government emphasizes the benefits of large-scale investment and job creation.
