Meanwhile, a heated debate has arisen in the crypto prediction market over whether he actually cried.

So, what are the specific rules stated on Polymarket?

The rules state that if Ronaldo has clearly visible tears rolling down his face in any photo or video during the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches representing Portugal, this market will be ruled as Yes. Otherwise, it will be ruled as No. "Crying" must occur while Ronaldo is on the field or in the substitute area; crying in the locker room or other areas does not count. Crying can happen before, during, or after the match. Otherwise, this market will be ruled as No.

Thus, the key issues return to two core questions: whether C Ronaldo's tears were clearly visible and where he was crying at the time.

C Ronaldo's Last Match

There is no dispute over his red eyes on the field.

Multiple authoritative media outlets described C Ronaldo's reaction immediately after the match, with American ESPN and the UK's Independent using terms like "in tears," "tearful," "bursts into tears," and "emotional with tears in his eyes." FOX Sports and other broadcasters released compilations of emotional reactions post-match, capturing moments of C Ronaldo with red eyes, wiping his face, and looking serious in the stands and mixed zone.

These images did not occur in private areas but in public areas such as the field, near the substitute bench, or player tunnels, meeting the time and location requirements in Polymarket's rules for before, during, or after the match, within the field or substitute area. The images and videos were all captured live on-site, with no post-production, AI, or old material suspicions.

A topic about C Ronaldo's tear-filled eyes once topped the trending list on Xiaohongshu.

Upon checking video footage on Xiaohongshu, I found that his eyes indeed contained some tears, but it was unclear whether the tears were visibly rolling down his face.

This is precisely the focal point of contention between both sides on Polymarket.

Dispute Erupts

The YES side argues that multiple high-definition photos and videos show C Ronaldo's eyes glistening with tears, wiping his face with his hand or sleeve. Mainstream global media unanimously report that the photos and videos prove this.

The NO side contends that the rules require tears to be clearly rolling down his face, not just red eyes or holding back tears. Some holders believe that the existing footage needs to be magnified to barely see it, which does not meet the criteria for "clear observation."

Currently, the market has had two proposals for No, both of which faced protests and have entered the final review, to be decided by a vote from the UMA oracle community—this is the standard mechanism for resolving disputes on Polymarket. Voting in the oracle community often favors large holders, leaving retail investors as mere acceptors of the rules.
