SBI Adds Japanese Government Bonds to JPYSC Reserve Assets
SBI Shinsei Trust Bank and SBI VC Trade are managing part of the reserve assets for the yen-pegged stablecoin JPYSC in Japanese short-term government bonds. This move follows Japan's regulatory easing in June, which allowed the inclusion of short-term government bonds in stablecoin reserve assets. On the 7th, SBI VC Trade announced that it has begun managing 1 billion yen (approximately 9.4 million USD) of JPYSC's reserve assets in Japanese short-term government bonds. According to the revised Payment Services Act, in Japan, if certain conditions are met, up to 50% of the issuance amount of trust-type stablecoins can be managed in government bonds or time deposits with maturities of three months or less. Previously, funds corresponding to the issuance amount of trust-type stablecoins had to be managed in demand deposits. JPYSC is designed to be pegged 1:1 to the Japanese yen, with SBI Shinsei Trust Bank responsible for issuance and management, while SBI VC Trade handles issuance and distribution. The two companies plan to establish a funding circulation structure that connects digital finance with traditional financial markets by utilizing high-credit yen assets such as Japanese government bonds.
