Controversy Over Ethereum Staking Reward Reduction
The discussion around reducing Ethereum (ETH) staking rewards has escalated into a debate concerning the collateral usability in DeFi (Decentralized Finance). The central issue is a proposal to eliminate rewards if the staking ratio exceeds half of the total supply. As of the 6th, 'EIP-8361' is not listed in the official Ethereum EIP registry, and the related document is 'EIP-5792: Move to Draft', which pertains to wallet remote procedure calls (RPC). Proponents of the reduction argue that as staking rewards increase, the issuance of new ETH also rises, warning that if the network fee burn does not offset the issuance, Ethereum's scarcity could diminish. Opponents point out that Ethereum is used as a key collateral for lending, liquidity provision, and derivatives, claiming that changes in the reward structure could impact credit markets and the yields of liquidity staking tokens (LSTs). According to the official Ethereum staking page on the 6th, the total staking volume is 41,175,166 ETH, accounting for 33% of the total supply, with the current annual percentage rate (APR) at 2.6%. AMBCrypto reported that Stani Kulechov (CEO of Aave) and Mike Silagadze (CEO of EtherFi) expressed concerns on social media. The specific details of the reward adjustment proposal and its potential impact on the DeFi market can be assessed after the official EIP document is submitted.
