OpenSea launches the Ethereum open standard ERC-8257, positioned as an application store for AI agent tools
OpenSea announced the launch of the Ethereum open standard ERC-8257 (Agent Tool Registry), positioning it as the "app store for AI agent tools," allowing developers to register tools on-chain, declare access rules and pricing, and support AI agents in autonomously discovering, purchasing access rights, and invoking tools without human intervention.
OpenSea stated that this standard is layered and combined with protocols such as ERC-8004 (Agent Identity), MCP (Tool Discovery), and x402 (Payment Protocol), collectively forming the operational infrastructure for AI agents on-chain. Currently, ERC-8257 is still in the draft stage, and OpenSea invites developers to participate in refining the specification.
