Main Street Sues Comcast and Charter Over Fees
Main Street Sports has filed a lawsuit against Comcast and Charter Communications for unpaid regional sports network licensing fees. The lawsuit was filed on the 24th in the Delaware Superior Court, claiming that the two companies did not adequately pay the contractual licensing fees while Main Street's network was broadcasting NBA and NHL games in early 2026. Comcast and Charter are the largest pay-TV providers in the U.S., operating regional sports networks and receiving licensing fees based on their subscriber base. Main Street has undergone several ownership and name changes since 2019, and it rebranded as FanDuel Sports Network after completing bankruptcy protection procedures in early 2025. However, due to subscriber losses in pay-TV, the subscriber base for regional sports channels has weakened, and Main Street is in the process of winding down its operations after broadcasting the last regional MLB game in 2025. This lawsuit highlights that issues regarding the settlement of existing pay-TV contracts remain unresolved. The key issue may be how Comcast and Charter reflect subscriber declines and changes in channel value in their contract settlements.
