Japan's Ministry of Defense Plans to Develop AI Satellites to Enhance Counterattack Capabilities
Japan's Ministry of Defense plans to develop satellites equipped with artificial intelligence to analyze space surveillance data, aiming to accelerate decision-making and enhance capabilities for striking with long-range missiles. The project will collaborate with Japanese companies to build test satellites and conduct ground performance validation during the fiscal years 2027 to 2029. These satellites are expected to be launched in fiscal year 2030 or later to test their functionalities. The AI systems will be developed independently by Japan.
