IMF: Over Half of Tokenized US Stock Trades Occur Outside Regular Hours
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has noted that tokenized US stocks support around-the-clock trading and fractional share ownership, with more than half of trades occurring outside regular market hours. Approximately 80% of these trades involve less than one share. The IMF stated that overnight price changes contain valuable information, with over 85% of price movements being reflected in traditional stock prices within five minutes of market opening. The IMF pointed out that the market for tokenized stocks is still relatively small and fragmented, which could improve settlement and automation processes, but there is a need to strengthen legal, liquidity, and interoperability safeguards.
