Frax Discusses Early Release of Ethereum Lockup
Frax governance is discussing a plan to allow early redemption from the locked Ethereum pool. A 4% penalty will be imposed upon redemption, which will return to the Frax treasury. This proposal is currently in the 'temperature check' phase, and its actual implementation has not been confirmed. Lockup products provide predictable liquidity but can impose burdens on users during market fluctuations. Frax's proposal is interpreted as a way to provide an escape route to alleviate these issues while maintaining the essence of the lockup. The 4% penalty allows for early redemption but ensures that it is not treated as easily as a typical deposit. The penalty structure is designed so that the protocol partially compensates for the system's burden. However, there is a need for discussion on whether the 4% is excessive or too low, potentially undermining the purpose of the lockup. Lockup products must have clear and predictable conditions, as frequent changes to the rules may deter users from long-term deposits. This discussion is in its early stages, and the actual application and specific conditions may change. The level of the penalty, the pools to which it applies, and the frequency of allowed redemptions are expected to be key factors in the final decision.
