Cursor Responds to OpenAI's Termination of Partnership, Model Traffic Accounts for 5%

Prefer us on GoogleCursor co-founder and CEO Michael Truell stated that OpenAI has notified them of plans to stop Cursor users' access to its models in three months. Truell pointed out that OpenAI models account for about 5% of Cursor's user traffic, and Cursor is in communication with OpenAI to resolve this issue. Cursor has been one of OpenAI's earliest users, collaborating for many years, and has always trusted OpenAI to treat its platform as a neutral infrastructure. Amid this change in partnership, Cursor faces intensified competition in the AI programming tools market and pressure from model providers building their own applications. Previously, just two weeks after SpaceX completed its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, OpenAI announced the end of its nearly four-year partnership with Cursor, stating that new models will no longer be integrated into Cursor, and the supply of existing models will cease on November 12, 2026. The contract allows OpenAI to terminate the agreement after Cursor's acquisition. OpenAI accused Musk of breaching the contract after acquiring Twitter and mentioned that xAI had previously misused OpenAI models.
