Core Lightning Releases Update 26.06.7 After Detecting Vulnerabilities

Core Lightning launched version 26.06.7 on August 28 as an emergency security update after identifying several vulnerabilities through reports generated by artificial intelligence. The new version replaces 26.06.6, which was released on July 22, and is named 'Quantum-Resistant Lightning Channel VII'. The detection process began on August 13, when the team received an unusual volume of reports similar to an AI-assisted security audit. For 10 days, developers analyzed the findings and confirmed that some represented real threats. In light of this situation, the project decided not to wait for the scheduled release of version 26.09 at the end of September and published 26.06.7 to address the identified issues. Details about the vulnerabilities will be kept confidential for two weeks, until mid-September, to reduce the risk of exposure for operators. Operators are advised to upgrade to version 26.06.7, as versions 26.04 and earlier will no longer receive support or patches. This episode adds to other vulnerabilities addressed by Core Lightning in 2026 and reflects the increasing scrutiny on the security of the Lightning Network infrastructure.
