Blockchain and AI Emerge as Next Beneficiaries of Investment

As investment flows in artificial intelligence (AI) concentrate on semiconductor and cloud companies, blockchain and cryptocurrencies are emerging as the next beneficiaries. Sandy Kaul of Franklin Templeton stated that the next investment opportunity in the AI industry lies in technologies that enable machine-to-machine transactions. Currently, institutional funds are focused on semiconductors and data centers, but the foundation for economic activities between AIs is being overlooked. The 'agentic AI' mentioned by Kaul refers to systems that perform actual tasks with minimal human intervention, allowing AI to handle tasks such as travel bookings or data purchases autonomously. Robinhood has introduced AI-based investment features that enable AI to trade stocks. However, existing payment systems are inefficient for transactions between AIs. Kaul predicts that blockchain could emerge as the payment infrastructure for the AI economy, explaining that if a structure is established where AI agents pay through blockchain networks, the demand for blockchain will surge. Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle, interprets AI and blockchain as a single structural change, raising the possibility that companies will utilize AI agents to conduct economic activities. Currently, AI investment portfolios are centered around technology companies, but if autonomous AI establishes itself as an economic entity, blockchain and cryptocurrencies could emerge as new investment perspectives.
