Argentina Increases Corn Exports, Ukraine Loses Markets
Argentina plans to set a record for corn exports in August and September, shipping up to 10 million tons to foreign markets. Demand for Argentine corn is rising due to complications in Ukrainian exports caused by Russian strikes on the port infrastructure in Odessa. Argentina, the third-largest corn exporter in the world, is completing the harvest for the 2025-2026 season, which will total 71.7 million tons, 20% more than the previous record. Large stocks allow Argentine exporters to offer significant volumes of grain at competitive prices, further undermining Ukraine's position in the global market. Corn exports to North Africa from January to July 2026 increased by 45% to 6.5 million tons. Morocco increased its imports of Argentine corn by 133% to 1.55 million tons, Egypt by 48% to 2.4 million tons, and Algeria by 10% to 2.4 million tons. Ukrainian corn exports are suffering from Russian attacks on ports, forcing shipments to be redirected to land routes with low capacity. Last month, the volume of Ukrainian supplies dropped by 52%, prompting buyers to seek alternatives in Argentina.
