Anthropic Members Anticipate Open Sourcing of Core Technologies by Nvidia and Microsoft
Julian Schrittwieser, a technical member of Anthropic, posted on social media, mocking the shift in attitude of tech giants towards open sourcing, and expressing hope that Nvidia and Microsoft will further open their core technologies. He stated that he looks forward to the open source release of Nvidia's CUDA and GPU drivers, as well as Microsoft's Windows and Microsoft Office. Schrittwieser also responded to speculation about his opposition to open weight models, claiming that such interpretations are inaccurate and that he believes open models can play a significant role in many scenarios. He pointed out that some companies that were previously cautious about open sourcing have now quickly shifted to support an open ecosystem. In recent years, competition in artificial intelligence has intensified, making open source models and developer ecosystems important competitive areas in the tech industry. Although companies like Nvidia and Microsoft emphasize their support for open ecosystems, there remains controversy within the industry regarding the definition of "open"; some companies open model interfaces or toolchains while keeping core commercial assets closed source. Schrittwieser's remarks have sparked discussions, focusing on whether the "selective open sourcing" promoted by tech giants truly represents openness or is merely a new competitive strategy in the ecosystem.
